Dr. Alexander Horbal is thrilled to join an outstanding practice, surrounded by excellent staff that take pride in their job and provide excellent patient care!
Having suffered with allergies as a child, Dr. Alex has always been drawn to the field of allergic disease. Due to his personal experience with the symptoms of allergies, he has seen first hand the positive impact treatment can have on ones quality of life. Though he is one of the newest members of the team, this is not his first time in the office! Dr. Alex remembers finishing his homework in his father’s office after school growing up and aspiring to be able to care for patients like his dad. Little did he know, he would be able to work by his family’s side and bring the newest and most up to date treatments to the practice. Just a small town kid coming back to help his community.
Dr. Alex grew up in the tri-city area and graduated from H.H. Dow High School in 2003, where he was a state swimmer and soccer player. He completed his undergraduate degree in 2008 from The Ohio State University in circulatory sciences and worked as a perfusionist in Europe prior to starting his medical school training. He received his osteopathic medical degree from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2016. His training to Detroit to complete both his Internal Medicine residency and Allergy and Immunology fellowship at Henry Ford Hospital.
Dr. Alex has a wide range of clinical interests including allergic and non-allergic rhinitis, angioedema, eczema, and food and drug hypersensitivity. He has several publications in the field and is an active member of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology (AAAAI), American College of Allergy, Asthma, & Immunology (ACAAI).
Outside of work, Dr. Alex loves spending time with his wife, his 1 year old son, and their Goldendoodle puppy. He loves exploring the outdoors (especially in northern Michigan), trying new restaurants, traveling, racing cars, and is an avid movie watcher.
With a nod to his osteopathic training, Dr. Alex always focuses on treating the whole patient, rather than focusing on a specific symptom, since allergic disorders often have related conditions that go undiagnosed.
